Vote for the Winners of Goodwill’s Halloween Costume Contest!

To all the witches, zombies, and other costume artists out there: You are fabulous!   Today’s Good News: We’ve received many entries that showed your creativity, individuality, and “thriftiness”.  Visit our Facebook Page to see all submissions.

This morning, a panel determined the top three costumes and here they are:

“Lost Zombie Hikers” – submitted by Jessica Strang, Charlottesville, VA

These costumes were created by using items from Goodwill, fake blood, and make-up.

Lost hikers who are wandering the woods in the afterlife.  All items in the costumes, including shirts, pants, bags, boots, vests, etc., were purchased at the Goodwill store at 1720 Richmond Road in Charlottesville.  They used a mixture of corn starch and red dye to create fake blood and used white and black cream make-up for their faces. The wounds on their legs, arms and face were created using modge podge crafting glue. Wearing the costumes are Jessica Strang, Allen Dilliplane, and Brandi Allen.


“Mary Poppins” – submitted by Emily Smith, Covington, VA)

Emily got the shirt, skirt, and straw hat at Goodwill.  She spray painted the hat black and added flowers.  Using red ribbon she made a bow tie.  They added a quilted purse, black umbrella, black shoes, and white socks. Wearing the costume is Lillian Smith.







“Baby-bop” – submitted by Tonya Liptrap, Stuarts Draft, VA

Costume submitted by Tonya LiptrapTonya got several pants, shirts, ribbon, quilt batting, and felt at Goodwill stores in Waynesboro, Verona, and Charlottesville.  She then took everything apart at the seams, cut out patterns, and created this costume.  Wearing the costume is Kenah Liptrap.

    • Hello Jerry and thank you for checking out our Blog. We did not have a gangster entry to our Costume Contest this year. Possibly it could have been made to another Goodwill?
